Olympic Training Center

Embry’s fever broke, but she was still not feeling well this morning. Her foot looks much better now too, so we aren’t as concerned as we had been. If her fever had stuck around, we had a clinic all lined up, but I’m so grateful we didn’t have to go and so is Embry.

We decided to tour the Olympic Training Center, where so many Olympians train, since it wouldn’t be taxing for Embry and Aubyn is dying to see it. Aubyn is obsessed with women’s gymnastics and would love to meet an Olympian gymnast. The Training Center was cool, but we thought they would have some gymnastics stuff there and they didn’t. We were a little bummed for her, but were still inspired to see where athletes, like Michael Phelps, live and train as they get ready for the Olympics.

Afterwards, we explored Colorado Springs and Old Colorado Springs, enjoying their downtown and a playground. Again, how does Colorado have the coolest playgrounds I’ve ever seen?

We got off the beaten path and followed a dirt road to a waterfall someone suggested checking out. Again with these roads! Why do some of the coolest places have to be at the end of these narrow dirt roads with steep drop-offs? But also, again, it was worth it.

The hike up to the waterfall was easy and there were not many people there. It felt like a place for locals and we got to take a peek at a private world.

We love places like these.

As we were driving down the mountain, ambulances sped past us going up. At the bottom of the hill, a man was standing in the middle of the road and asked us if we’d seen anything. He was concerned his friend on a motorcycle had been injured.

We took a moment as a family to thank God for our safe travels and to pray for the well being of this man’s friend. You never know when tragedy is going to strike and we want to enjoy every moment God gives us.

We made it safely back to the campground and started packing up for our next leg of the trip.

Colorado Springs really is a cool town and one that I never thought of visiting. When Justin mentioned it as a stop, I sort of looked at him confused as to why. Now that we are about to leave, I realize just how much more there is to see. Next time!
