Off The Beaten Path
One thing that has become abundantly apparent to me this trip is that my crew loves to be off the beaten path.
Cities are great, but put us out in nature any day of the week.
Great restaurants and cute stores lining both sides of the street? Fun to see, but give us a creek and some sticks in a place less visited and we are one happy crew.
We’ve been through countless towns and cities now, but we rarely got out to see them. Instead, we chose to stay on the outskirts.
I opened the guidebook for Denver and saw the hundreds of things to do in the city. I immediately closed it and put it in my bag. I wasn’t interested in a single one of them. Not to say there aren’t some amazing places to see in town, that’s just not this trip.
And not really this family.
My crew? They’ll sharpen their own sticks and try to spear a fish. They’ll turn a few trees into their very own fort. They’ll turn rocks into their hunting ground or a place to play family. They’ll turn branches into horses or brooms to fly on.
It just comes naturally to them and I love watching their imaginations run wild and their freedom to explore run rampant.
They aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty or their feet wet and I love that about these wild children of mine.
Now, I would not be a good mom if I didn’t remind them to watch out for snakes, spiders, and cactus and that out here, at least, we have to wear shoes when out of the camper.
