Election Day
Man, it’s here.
Anyone else nervous?
I feel like all of 2024 has been building up to this moment.
And honestly, that’s not good.
Does alot ride on how the elections turn out?
Of course.
Is it everything?
No.
Do I wish I believed that with every part of my being?
I do.
But I don’t.
I’m nervous.
And God knew I was going to be nervous. That’s why He’s been reminding me all year to lean in to Him.
That my relationship with Him is what is going to matter most this year.
To rest in Him.
To depend on Him.
To turn to Him.
To unplug and play with my kids.
How many times are we told in the Bible to “fear not”?
Over and over and over again.
The president is not my moral leader.
He/She is not my guidepost.
They set policy. They set the agenda for the country.
But my hopes are not to rest on them.
My dreams for my life and my kids’ lives do not rest on them.
But I am scared. I am concerned. I am fearful for our country’s future.
Just being honest. The news will do that to you.
So I’m praying.
And I keep reminding myself that God is in charge.
His will not mine be done.
What that looks like, I don’t know.
But I do know God is good and He loves us. And I love Him.
And for today. Tomorrow. Next month. Next year.
Regardless what happens.
That’s enough.
He’s enough.
I looked up verses to remind me where to put my trust today, so I am sharing them here in case anyone else needs to read them too:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26: 3-4
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.” Psalm 56: 3-4
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24
“But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.” Psalm 13:5
“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!” Psalm 40:4
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” 1 John 4:18
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:5
And when this day is over, I pray we can all sleep peacefully knowing that it is in God’s hands.
I personally will be praying for all of our leaders, our country, and for my fellow Americans.
Some of us will be sad tonight and maybe even angry. I pray that those that are victorious are gracious and compassionate to those who do not feel the same way.
Some of us tonight will be relieved and celebratory. I pray that boasting is tempered and respect is given for those in grief.
Basically y’all, I pray for us to do what we learned in middle school - be a good sport.
Don’t be a sore loser and be a gracious winner.
It’s that simple.
But most of all, I pray for the peace and love that passes all understanding to fall on me and to all those around me.
May there be a supernatural falling of peace over our entire country and may we love one another better tomorrow than we did today.
Amen?
Amen.
