Leaving Moab

We’re heading to Telluride…yay!!!

Justin and I are so excited.

This felt a little too Breaking Bad for me

The drive wasn’t supposed to be a long one, but since we left Moab later in the day than expected, we canceled our reservation in Ridgway and planned to stop at another dispersed camping site.

Seemed like a good idea until we realized we were deep in the boonies and had no signal.

Fortunately, Justin was able to get signal and find a place for the evening a little off the main road.

It was later in the afternoon but still plenty of daylight, but we thought, let’s go ahead and stop for the day, take a break, then get up early in the morning and head into town to park the camper before we drive into Telluride.

Well…this dispersed site was not exactly what we hoped for.

Turning off the main road, I’m pretty sure people were cooking stuff and I’m not talking about dinner. I sat up and forward in my chair looking out as we headed down this incredibly bumpy dirt road.

Oh look, a park!

But it’s not for camping…

So Justin followed the dirt road a little further and then turned around in a turnabout.

That’s when we got stuck. Uh-oh.

Fortunately, it was just temporary, but we did have to unhook the car and do a little maneuvering to get the camper out.

Justin took the car to go explore further up the road and see if he saw any other campers and I cleaned up the oatmeal and olive oil that had fallen out of a closed compartment when we hit a huge bump.

Just what I was hoping to do today!

He got back without anything to report and asked me what I wanted to do.

Honestly? I want a campground. I want running water that we don’t have to watch how much we use and I want electricity. Maybe a laundry facility. Or a playground for the kids.

We had just canceled the reservation, maybe we could get it back? Can we drive that far?

I’m so grateful Justin agreed and off to Ridgway we headed.

It was a beautiful drive, but really, I don’t understand how we can always be on roads with steep drop-offs. Isn’t there any flat ground in Colorado???

We pulled into the campground right after they closed for the evening, but everything was waiting for us. This place was the most helpful campground and I was so grateful to be there.

The kids saw the playground and jump pad and I saw the laundromat. Yes!!! Who knew you could get excited about laundry?!

It felt good to know that this would be home sweet home for the next two days.
